Drama Therapist & Psychotherapist

Drama Therapist & Psychotherapist Drama Therapist & Psychotherapist Drama Therapist & Psychotherapist

What is Drama Therapy?

Drama Therapy is a psychotherapeutic method using creative principles and exercises for therapeutic effect. It is grounded in psychology and takes a humanistic lens. It expands talk therapy by allowing clients to also explore themselves through metaphor, story, physicalization, and with the use of objects.

Do I need to view myself as creative to do Drama Therapy?

Not at all! This approach is client-led and strength-based. Meaning we will go where you want to go. Talk therapy is still a big part of Drama Therapy but we also have all these other options in which to explore yourself. Going into the creative, allows us to access the right hemisphere of our brain, where we can access memory, emotional response, symbol making, and insight. It allows us to reach deep places faster, yet in a way that feels gentle, imaginative, and explorative. Dipping into creativity, also encourages us to start thinking differently: more openly, and with more flexibility of thought, allowing our opinions and ideas to change.

The power of our imaginations...

Life is made up of our repeated pattern of behaviours, thoughts, even feelings. When we go into our imagination, we allow ourselves to try out different thoughts and behaviours. This allows us a chance to expand our sense of self, and let go of patterns that no longer serve us.

Creativity gives an individual distance and and safe container to view their inner world.
